Situated at the very centre of England’s most beautiful National Park, yet easy to access by car, public transport, bike or foot, this new deluxe hostel is ideal for the discerning visitor.  It is the perfect base for high activity breaks, walking, scenic touring or just chilling out.

The hostel, new in June 2000, is small, clean and friendly.  Our hostel was graded by the English Tourism Council as 4 star hostel. A reflection of the high quality, standards and service we provide.  As ex world travellers we understand the needs of people on the move and have many years of experience in the local tourism industry.

 

This traditional Lakeland farm nestles at the foot of the Helvellyn  Range  and has direct access to many classic walks including the Coast to Coast foot path.  Being just over one mile from Grasmere village and yet only 70 metres off the main road through the Lakes.  Our position for accessing any part of the Lake District is unsurpassed.

Bedrooms

Each bedroom has mountain views and is fully carpeted; beds are made up with under fleece, poly cotton sheets, duvets and pillows; extra pillows and blankets are under the beds.  The beds are adult sized with bedside lights. Power points are provided for those who need to charge their mobile phones etc.  There are individual lockers (big enough for a rucksack). Padlocks are available. You will be given keys to lock your room.

 

Bathrooms and Towels

Four of the five bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms each complete with shower, toilet, sink, mirror and shaver point.  The fifth bedroom has the bathroom right next door.  Bath  towels  are not provided but can be hired. There are also additional showers, toilets and washbasins on the lower ground floor adjacent to the sauna

Kitchens

The two self catering kitchens are professionally fitted with stainless steel worktops, shelving, fridges, a 6 ring burner cooker with large oven, a smaller cooker, large grill, toasters, kettles and 3 microwaves.  Pots, pans and all kitchen equipment are provided for both kitchens.  They are locked at night for health and safety reasons but free tea and coffee is available 24 hours just outside the kitchen.  If your party comprises 12 or more people then we are willing  to consider giving you exclusive use of the largest kitchen.

Please note should you need to store any prescribed medicines in the fridge then we can give you a key for access to the kitchen. 

Dining Area 

The dining room is alongside  the kitchens and seats up to 24 people on 6 tables.  Food storage bins are provided for your food.  All crockery and cutlery are provided. We ask everyone to leave the kitchens and dining room clean after themselves.

Food and Self Catering

For those who do not wish to self cater, a light self service breakfast can be provided.  It comprises of cereal, toast, tea/coffee and orange juice.  Packed lunches are also available  (we do need advance notice).  For those requiring a hearty breakfast or evening meals, the pub (400 metres down the road) does excellent food.  If you need food we will lend you a bike to visit the village shops.  For shopping advice see our links page.

Residents Lounge 

The stunning lounge has wonderful views through a large circular window overlooking the whole valley and mountains.  Relax here with large television, travel library and comfortable seating. The views from this room include Loughrigg, Silver Howe, Seat Sandal, Grisedale Hause, Dunmail Raise, the Lion and Lamb and the whole valley floor to Grasmere village and beyond.

Remember your camera - the views from the hostel are dramatic and the Lake District weather provides photographers with an ever changing light, soft contrasts, high contrasts and ever changing colours right through the year.

Public Payphone  and mobile reception. 

The payphone is available in reception, complete with all emergency numbers, phone directories and local information.  Please note! We now have a new telecommunications mast but it does not give good reception for everybody the services work well but be prepared.  It is well worth taking your mobile on your walk but don't rely on it as there are many black holes locally.

Laundry Facilities / Drying Room 

The hostel has a commercial washing machine and separate tumble drier (coin operated).   We have a drying room big enough for everyone, with fan,  dehumidifier and boot racks etc.. 

Have a Sauna to Rest and Relax

We have a coin operated Nordic sauna for up to four people. The showers are adjacent.

Dining al fresco

Relax outside in our sunny, secluded sitting out area.  You are welcome to dine outside here, it is right alongside the kitchens. Do ask if you would like to have a barbeque we have all the gear and fuel on site.

Guest Information  

A comprehensive display of leaflets of attractions and activities is available, together with  maps, timetables, and useful telephone numbers etc… 

We enjoy having visitors and are happy to advise you how to make the most of your stay, however brief.  Do ask us!  We lend maps and walking guides in return for a small donation to a local conservation charity.

Reception

We are open from 8.00am to 10.00pm every day.  Should Reception be unattended please ring the bell; we live in the farmhouse below the hostel.

Late night keys are available on request, please ask!

Rooms are usually available from 4.00 pm but if you arrive early we are happy to store your luggage.

Please Note.  If for any reason you arrive later than 10.00pm please let us know in advance as ringing the reception bell after this time wakes our young family. 

Parking

Our private car park is adjacent to the hostel.  Drive into the top farmyard.  When you wish to leave, drive through the other end and out slowly through the bottom farmyard.  Please be careful, our ducks and chickens have no road sense and children  are often at play. Please look at the Hostel Plans Page for parking plans. Our car park is small (max 12 cars) Please park prettily!

Bike Shed And Left Luggage Store

We have a lockable bike shed for your convenience.  We will also store your luggage on your departure day if required.

Self catering Cottages

We also have 3 traditional Lakeland Stone  self-catering cottages on the farm available for weekly lets.  Please ask for a brochure or visit our website at: www.grasmere-accommodation.co.uk 

Please note the management accepts no responsibility for any possessions belonging to or lent to guests while on the premises, this includes vehicles, bikes and personal possessions.   However, if you have valuables, cameras or laptop computers etc, which you wish to leave with the proprietors for safe keeping, please ask at Reception.
